Tuesday, May 6, 2003 - 11:10 p.m.

On Friday I saw 'The Madness of George Dubya' and although it was funny in places it seemed very 6th form, or college lite. The humour was a little too purile and the politics a little simple, but it got the point and made you think a little.

Much better was Rob Newman who is still as funny as ever (Shonie, he's at Eden Court on June 18th). He covered years of politics to show why things are happening in the world today, and littered this with humour. I'll certainly be looking into a couple of things that he mentioned in the next few days.

Tuesday, May 6, 2003 - 10:31 p.m.

I can't believe that someone actually found my site by looking for "white stripes lyrics joleen", do they 1. Have no shame, and 2. Have no idea that they never wrote it.

Tuesday, May 6, 2003 - 10:28 p.m.

And the smear campaign continues.

Tuesday, May 6, 2003 - 10:24 p.m.

How many people do you think will want to kill me if I say I'm not going to T in the Park anymore? Is it my fault REM decided to play their own show in London before then? It's in a relatively small venue for them as well so it should be cool. Sorry kids, I still love ya.

Tuesday, May 6, 2003 - 06:19 p.m.

There are new tracks on my radio, although ignore the images as they haven't been uploaded and sorted yet so are still last weeks. Enjoy!

Monday, May 5, 2003 - 09:15 p.m.

Dave's way too clever, and there was me thinking that an IQ of 125 was good. If it hadn't been for the final section I probably would have done a bit better.

Monday, May 5, 2003 - 05:35 p.m.

There's so many thinks I need to do, so many things I want to say in here, but, but, but.....

Things are happening in my life just now that are making me stop and think, making me realise how it can all dissapear and how we all seem to waste what we have. Time is so short but we forget that and we make the wrong decisions. We foget what is important, we forget about ourselves.

We all need to remember and we all need to change.

Thursday, May 1, 2003 - 10:01 p.m.

Could he actually have been stupid enough to say this?

Tuesday, April 29, 2003 - 10:57 p.m.

Neutral confirmation of the brilliance of the place that is Tannadice. Although how he could have liked anything about Dens Park I don't know?

More about SARS:

"The World Health Organization reported 2,722 suspected SARS cases worldwide, with 106 deaths in 16 countries. This compares to a minimum of 250,000 deaths a year globally from influenza and its complications, but doctors are not ready to dismiss SARS."
Translation: The so-called global epidemic of SARS is not an epidemic. In fact, the suspected cases of SARS could be nothing more than flu/pneumonia of the types long known to exist.

AND

"Dr. Plummer said he had inoculated... rabbits, guinea pigs and mice with the SARS virus and found them "completely happy" with no evidence of illness"
24th April Laurence Altman, NY Times

AND

"Frank Plummer, the head of a key WHO lab in Canada, should be called The Incredible Shrinking Frank. First he said they had found the coronavirus in 60 percent of diagnosed SARS cases. That was already a scandal. Only 60 percent? Then he revised that figure downward to 50 percent. Now he's saying it's 40 percent."

Tuesday, April 29, 2003 - 09:12 p.m.

An interesting discussion on the complete bollocks that is being written about Gorgeous George. How come the Daily Torygraph keeps finding the exact documents that the USUK needs just as things are starting to look bad for them?

Tuesday, April 29, 2003 - 08:51 p.m.

I think Dave could be right about the YYY's album being quite cool (although still holding judgement as there is some sameyness going on, and it's not quite dirty enough, we won't real deep down dirty sex in these quarters you know), but he's wrong about the album cover. If you look closely he actually resembles the twat of an ex-boss I used to have, and in the flesh he looks like neither of us.

Tuesday, April 29, 2003 - 07:37 p.m.

Since all the other cool kids are doing it, I thought I'd better follow like a sheep....

Tuesday, April 29, 2003 - 12:39 p.m.

I've been ill the last week or so and that's why there haven't been any proper updates, I can't even remember if I wrote a review of the crap White Stripes gig I went to? I think that pretty much sums it up though :o) I dunno, there just didn't seem to be any spark or energy in the whole night and only a couple of songs got me going. Oh well, better luck next time?

Talking of music, if I didn't put Sleater Kinney's last album on my Top 10 for 2002 I should be shot, having listened to it a few times lately I have just fallen in love with it. Now that's another band I need to add to the list of must-see's.

Hey look it's time to pledge allegiance
Oh god I love my dirty Uncle Sam
Our country's marching to the beat now
And we must learn to step in time

I wanted to link a Moldy Peaches lyric as well but I can't find them on the web so I'll have to wait till I get home and listen to the song, any excuse eh?

So the illness was all Victoria's fault, he he. Although I could probably blame Mike as well? If it wasn't for those two I wouldn't have gone out that night and eaten dodgy food and drank too much alcohol, I have not felt that ill in a long time. I didn't sleep properly for at least two days, and whenever I did get 5 or 10 minutes I would wake up completely delirious not knowing who I was, where I was, or why people were out to get me. Before I could work all this out I would have to rush to the toilet and deposit contents from every orifice available to me. At one point I even felt that I had slept a whole day, before then realising that no, I just hadn't slept at all and what felt like ages was in fact only one hour passing. So that was pretty much my Easter Weekend taken care of, I think it was Monday before I even started eating properly and it was the Thursday night that I went out on, blurgh.

The night itself was good though, if not a little expensive and not really my scene. We first met in a trendy pub in Notting Hill where we chatted away for a couple of hours with the lovely Victoria, who was much too nice, intelligent, funny and cute to actually be a friend of Mike's :o) Then some friend's of Vic's turned up and we headed to this 'exclusive' club somewhere in West London. When i say 'exclusive', what i mean is we had to stand out in the cold for 20 minutes whilst pretending we were someone else so they would let us into what could only be called a converted house to listen to what presumably was meant to be 'hip n happening' music (actually it was quite good music, if not trying a bit too hard) and watch people trying to be cooler than the person next to them. I must have stuck out like a sore thumb. Then to finish the night off we headed to some guy's house where we drank some more, listened to more music, met a nephew of Bob Marley, and chatted away. I think it turned about 4am when my body decided to start giving up on me, so after throwing up we made our exit (I didn't make a mess, so don't start shouting at me). I think we finally made it home at around 7am after abortive journeys on buses, the tube, and finally the train. I could probably take you all on a trip round the places I've spewed in London, it would be fun.

So after finally recovering by Monday we headed off to the cinema to watch a rather dull 'A Man Apart' and a much better 'Phone Booth', which was excellently created and filmed. Possibly the ending could have been different, but I have the feeling that the DVD will have at least more then one alternative ending on it, much like Se7en and 24.

Unfortunately by this point I had started getting the cold so Tuesday was hellish at work, and by Wednesday afternoon I had given up and gone home again. I then spent that afternoon in bed sleeping, before watching a couple of episodes of X-Files and crashing out again. I could probably have made it to work the next day, but didn't and ended up watching 14 or so episodes of Series 7 X-Files back to back, and that even includes a break for the Celtic match (could I please have that 90 minutes of my life back please). Series 7 is much better than I remember it and certainly contains the most religious references I've seen in a TV series, there were also a number of episodes that I can't remember so that made it fun to watch. Unfortunately that means I have to watch Series 8 now and although through the first two tapes already I am still waiting for a good episode.

So now we've pretty much caught up eh? The weekend was taken slowly as still not 100%, but did manage to go and view our first flat which we won't be moving into. This was followed up by the purchasing of more DVD's I probably don't need, but hey they were on sale so I saved some money right?

And then I returned to the cinema last night to watch the extremely bleak, but very good anyway, 'Lilya 4-Ever'. It was funny noticing the poster of Tatu on the girls wall, but not so funny when they started singing on the soundtrack. I would suggest you look out for this film, but I warn you that it is a bit of struggle at times as it is extremely dark and depressing, worse possibly than 'Nil By Mouth'.

So finally we arrive at the present time where I should be doing work since I am off to another Unison meeting this afternoon, oh well.

Tuesday, April 29, 2003 - 10:32 a.m.

Good to see that the Yanks haven't finished killing off innocent Iraqis yet then. Don't you just love freedom?

Sunday, April 27, 2003 - 11:34 p.m.

I've been meaning to write about SARS for a while but just not gotton round to searching out the facts, so for now have a look at these two articles which cover some of the things that I've been thinking about.

Sunday, April 27, 2003 - 10:31 p.m.

'Dying for Drugs' on Channel 4 was one of the best programs I have seen in a long time. I've read about the profit tactics run by pharmaceutical companies before, but the real life cases used really brought home the fact that these companies were playing with people's lives as if they were not humans and not worthy of proper lives. The final story especially, with the harrowing images and final death of a boy with aids nearly brought me to tears. Please click on the link at the beginning of this entry and have a quick look at the issues, and should it move you try doing something about it, there are plenty of info links available on the Channel 4 site. Thanks, and this is the type of story we'll be expecting from you in a few years you know.

Sunday, April 27, 2003 - 06:25 p.m.

Don't blame me, it was her who did it first. A mixtape of my life:-

SIDE ONE
1. REM - Everybody Hurts
Pretty obvious choice I suppose, but they are my favourite band of all time. The whole album struck a chord with me during the crappy teenage years I went though and this one meant the most, although I could probably have chosen any of the tracks from the album and given the same reason.

2. Nick Cave - Mercy Seat
I went to see him live just after splitting up the only major relationship I've been in and this song was just immense. I thought the gig would be depressing but in fact it was the complete opposite and helped me get through it all.

3. Manic Street Preachers - Suicide is Painless
Another teenage song that struck a chord with depressed young kid struggling in a small town in the middle of nowhere.

4. Rage Against the Machine - Fight the Power
Even if I don't want to dance in a club, if this song comes on I have to start jumping about as it's just a fucking perfect moshing song.

5. Beatles - Back in the USSR
You have to include a Beatles song on a list like this right, so why not this one? The White Album was the first album I properly listened to of theirs and this was my favourite track.

6. Placebo - Nancy Boy
The first band I got into when I went to Uni and a much needed blast of glam fun in an otherwise tough spell in student accommodation.

7. Nirvana - Rape Me
I grew up as a Generation X-er, how could Kurt Cobain not be really important to me? I think it was just the controversial lyrics which makes me love this one so much.

8. Guns N Roses - Mr Brownstone
I just remember playing Appetite for Destruction in my parents car when driving round in Germany, the perfect cock rock track.

9. Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
The first album I ever bought myself was a Best of Beach Boys and this track has always stood out as my favourite. When living in Germany me and my friends all used to love them and make copies of each of their albums for each other, those were the days.

10. Weezer - Dope Nose
A timely reminder amongst the dirge of music that is coming out of the rock and indie scene just now that these genres can produce fun songs that you can throw yourself about to. I also heard it first on a mix that this lovely girl made me.

11. Idlewild - Captain
The perfect live song that they now refuse to play as they're annoying rock stars that want to leave behind there past. Still, that won't make me remove such a great track from this list, especially as this is still the only band that I have been to with Evil Stu and made me realise that he might actually have some taste in music.

SIDE TWO
1. JJ72 - Snow

I remember hearing this on Steve Lamacq's now defunct Radio 1 show and automatically wanting to jump about my bedroom in Dundee, in fact I think I did just that. A good reminder of all the good bands that Mr Lamacq introduced to me over all those years of listening to his show.

2. Shakin' Stevens - Green Door
The first singer I ever liked. Not cool, and not one that I have listened to in years, but you can't ignore songs that were important just for being crap can you?

3. Hanson - mmmbop
After being hounded out of our halls of residence by mad locals smashing up the place and chasing us with knives, I stayed with my gran and had to travel into Uni by bus. I remember buying this single and listening to it repeatedly on my headphones travelling through a sunny Scottish countryside.

4. Blur - Parklife
Not their best track, but as a reminder of my final year at school, a perfect one.

5. Pulp - Do you remember the first time
A load of us used to play footie in a park and occasionally we'd have a sound system playing, I remember sitting one evening after a day of running about and this was on. It's a reminder of the friends time and the friends that have drifted off from my life.

6. Levellers - One Way
The first band I ever saw live. I travelled through with my sister and her fiancé to Aberdeen and had great fun, I also used to play a tape of their first two albums non-stop when walking the dogs and this is my favourite track.

7. Radiohead - Street Spirit
The Bends is an album I like to listen to whenever feeling a little low, this is the standout of what is one of the best albums of all time.

8. Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell
More cheese, but another one of my early loves. Me, Mike and another friend at school bonded over Meat Loaf and X-Files, how I would love to kill him for that now :o)

9. Presidents of the United States - Lump
When travelling to my first ever music festival, this was blasted out of the car. Remember the Bohemian Rhapsody scene in Wayne's World? That was me and Mike with this track.

10. James - Laid
I just remember this being on the jukebox a lot when at school, we would be wasting our time playing pool instead of studying. If only life was still that simple eh?

11. Trail of Dead - Mistakes and Regrets
It's the band that I now turn to when needing comfort and familiarity, and it's also one of the best live songs in existence. Makes a cool ending to a mix tape too eh?

Sunday, April 27, 2003 - 06:18 p.m.

Watched The Devil's Backbone last night and it wasn't really as good as I thought it would be. Some of the effects looked good, and all the actors seemed to do their job well enough but overall the story never really went anywhere.

Saturday, April 26, 2003 - 11:42 p.m.

Every weekend I get my hopes up, yet every weekend they get shattered. There's no chance I'll ever stop dreaming though, one day we'll be good again.

Saturday, April 26, 2003 - 11:25 p.m.

If you click on the radio link to the left you'll find 10 more songs of brilliant quality to chill out to, enjoy :o) You should at least give track 10 a spin as you will be amazed by the awsomeness of it....

Wednesday, April 23, 2003 - 10:31 a.m.

Yesterday evening I was completely pissed off that I had missed out on Bjork tickets due to getting the days mixed up. I was so desperate to see her that I even had a quick look on ebay but there was no way I was paying £100 to see a concert. On the off chance I decided to look at a different site this morning and guess what was sat there in front of my very own eyes.....YES!!!!! I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork. I'm going to see Bjork.

Excited? Me? What possibly gave you that idea?

So that's it, I've seen nearly every band that I want to see now. I think there's only the Flaming Lips (who are playing at the same time as REM at TitP, who's stupid idea was that then?), GYBE and Beastie Boys (although seeing them about 5-10 years ago would have been better) left that I really want to see that I haven't before. I'm sure more will come along, but for now I keep my fingers crossed that these bands pop up at some point in London.

So May now holds the promise of Mogwai, Evan Dando and Bjork.....fuck does that make me feel good.

Tuesday, April 22, 2003 - 12:24 p.m.

Sometimes you forget that there are more important things in life than feeling sorry for yourself as you're a little ill and have to sit at work where nothing exciting happens. Big hug to everyone who's feeling a little low about things just now, especially you big sis.

Well Easter wasn't quite as exciting as I had hoped, due to illness and bad news but I still managed to have some fun so shall write about that when I have some more time and don't feel like falling asleep on top of my keyboard.

Remember to live a life and not just exist....

Sunday, April 20, 2003 - 03:41 p.m.

Come on Caley!!! After Everton losing yesterday and Dundee United not playing, surely this means they have a chance in the semi? Sounds like they started well enough but Dundee are starting to control the game....COME ON!!!

Thursday, April 17, 2003 - 04:16 p.m.

Well I need to go and get ready as I'm off out for more drinks tonight with two girls I've met never met before and know nothing about, should be interesting, especially as it's in Notting Hill.

Thursday, April 17, 2003 - 04:15 p.m.

Currently listening to the Best of Belly and I never knew they had released a song in French? She sounds so sexy....

Thursday, April 17, 2003 - 04:07 p.m.

Watching the footie in a packed pub was fun last night, nothing beats watching a great game of footie in a bar where you can hardly move. Chatted to a couple of guys, one of which actually knew something about Scottish footie (but only 'cause his other half was a tim), and drank a few beers and then came home....ah, sometimes the simple things are best. Also managed to predict the score and that someone was going to be sent off, one day I'll have to place a bet on these feelings I have, it could make me rich.

Thursday, April 17, 2003 - 04:05 p.m.

With my first day off for this long Easter break I have managed to do laundry, food shopping, the dishes, and buy a big square pillow for my bed from amazon for letting me steal their images, some computer mag for the basic framework for the radio, and Mike for doing all the technical stuff for it. So overall all I did was design the tapes and label, and come up with the idea, oh well.

Happy listening!!!
