White Stripes gig tonight and to be honest I'm not at all excited about it, I was expecting to be full of anticipation but the latest album seems to have dulled my feelings about it all. I know they will be good, and should play a reasonable amount of oldies, but after reading a couple of reports they do seem to be playing quite a lot of the new album which means I could be asleep by the end. Track 3 is still a pile of crap which should be band from being heard by anyone, ever. Talking of music, thanks to you for the Blood Brothers (great) and Postal Service (I think I need time to get used to them, not quite sure about the bleepiness of it all yet) albums, greatly appreciated. I hope you'll have the KH and TM albums waiting for you when you get back from Roddy in Canada. We have some woman coming to look at the house this weekend and I'm gonna be out most of the time so it looks like the other housemates are gonna have to clean the place for once. Not that Emily lives there anymore as she moved the majority of her stuff out last night, it's the end of an era. Oh well. Did I tell you all about two of my friends who are getting married? Well this is kinda spooky, especially as they used to date. Both are getting married on May 14th, luckily though one is in 2004 and the other 2005. which saves me the difficult decision of who's I would have gone to. Staurt, since you mentioned Big Ron's commentary I have to admit that most of the time I try to channel his voice out of my head as he talks so much crap. What were Celtic up to last night? OK, they didn't play that badly against a team who were lined up to frustrate them, but at the same time there didn't appear to be any flair or imagination in the side what-so-ever. You have to worry when Hartson is you best player. And who else guessed that Larsson was gonna miss that penalty? He did not look confident at all, in fact the last few times I've seen him he hasn't looked that good. Is he past it? I feel guilty about not updating my web site now as not only have I had someone asking if it's ok to let them link my page, but I got caught in a conversation with a stand-up comedian/actor and an actor/musician/photographer. So when they turned round and asked what I did I had no answer accept to say that all I could be is a critic, and I don't even seem to be bothering with that these days. So just now I'm feeling like I'm wasting away without achieving a thing, I need a good kick up the arse to get me into gear. I did start updating my movie and music lists and they should be finished this weekend, but it's gonna take ages to sort out the footie sections and start reviewing my albums and movies. I need to do it though as it keeps my mind from shutting down as seems to be happening with the simple job I have just now. Wow I finally have my Converse Trainers, and apart from being stuck talking to the old lady next door for 5-10 minutes when I went to pick them up, I'm very pleased with them. Not sure how long they will stay looking clean, but who cares as they look cool. I'll also have to try on a size 11 in the shop as the ones I have are 12's and are very big, although that might piss me off? Well I got through all four seasons of Babylon 5 that I own, and I've now moved onto Twin Peaks. I've only got the first series, so I'm gonna watch it again to refresh my memory and then watch it again with the commentary to try and get another insight into what has to be one of the best TV progs ever. I shall then be frustrated waiting for the second series to be released on DVD, argh!!! Anyone know whether the protest in London is still going ahead tomorrow? I presume it is as the war isn't anywhere near over whatever the propoganda machines try to tell us. And that bull-shit with the statue, have you soon a better set-up since the moon landings? And why aren't the troops protecting the hospitals, or are they happy breaking even more Geneva Conventions? American stupidity continues. Further to Dave's observations about 'Northern Irelander's", apparently members of Bush's enterage wore ID that said 'Belfast, Ireland'. Yep, just the country I want to help sort out the problems of the world. For those of you missing Melody Maker (you know, the old weekly magazine that was better than NME), here are links to two magazines that are utilising the superior journalistic skills of those distant days. Careless Talk Costs Lives, and Bang. After reading one issue of each I have to say that CTCL is the superior of the two so far, but that might just be down to the fact that it is produced by Everett True who is just brilliant. Thursday, April 10, 2003 - 03:10 p.m.
Well we actually got out for drinks last night with the housemate that no longer lives in the house, and although Maz pulled out at the last minute as usual (she's like a catholic man having sex) we had fun just chatting away, drinking beer, and eating too much pizza and cheesecake. I think Mike may have scared the waitress in Pizza Hut though as every time she came over to serve us he seemed to be talking about sex (no change there then). The trip home was fun too, apart from Mike taking the piss out of my clothes and music, as we got chatting away to this very cute girl about Evan Dando. Conversation then wandered around other cool music and books before we had to leave the train, never to see her again. Boo Hoo :o( I'll have to keep an eye out for her at the Evan Dando gig next month though, or would that be too sad? I have to say this though Mike, when talking about decent music do not start dropping in that you want to go and see Meat Loaf OK, that is how to scare the women away. Apart from last night life has been pretty dull lately, hence the complete lack of updates over the last few weeks. I did go to the cinema on Monday which was fun as I got to see a compiliation of short films, three of which were very good, one which was ok, and two which we'll just skip over shall we. List was the best and I might go into that one in more detail some other day when I'm bored and have nothing else to write about. There was of course the Man Utd game on Tuesday night which I alluded to on Tuesday, it was a brilliant game and I advise everyone to watch the second leg next week as it is going to be amazing as Utd will be pushing for goals whilst Real just play the most sublime football I have ever seen (some of them are even better than me would you believe). I see The Mirror has stolen my comment about Real being the Harlem Globetrotters of the football world, do you think I should sue? I finally got a pair of Converse trainers, although I did have to order them over the internet and pay a small fortune for them. I just hope they fit after the hassle of trying to get the actual package which I believe now sits in my neighbours house. So did you all watch the BBC Big Read on Saturday night? Well the programme itself was a little poor (the editing was terrible), but it was interesting to see the types of books people love the most (although the person who chose an 'arry 'otter book should be shot). You can vote online so hop over their now as I know you have nothing better to do. My vote went for The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks, let me know yours. Wednesday, April 9, 2003 - 02:25 p.m.
The Guardian rolling commentary on the budget was hilarious, Scott Murray normally does football and cricket but they dragged him over to the politics desk for the day. Here are some examples: 1pm: DEADENING-THE-PAIN DOUBLE WHAMMY There will be 8p on a packet of 20 tabs. Fags up, booze up ... doesn't he realise we need to kill the pain? The economy has grown for six years in a row. I don't know what this is supposed to mean, as I've done a quick vox pop and everyone around me is still as poor as they were six years ago. In fact some appear to be worse off. It's snowing in London. Not that anyone outside the capital should care about the minutae of city life, but when has that ever stopped a journalist before? Tony Blair and Iain Duncan Smith are busy conducting a physics experiment, blasting therms of hot air about the war at each other over the dispatch box. Result: a vacuum of opinion. Tuesday, April 8, 2003 - 08:54 p.m. Just watching the Real Madrid v Man Utd game and it is just amazing, this is the kind of game you show people to convert them into loving the beautiful game. Real are the Harlem Globetrotters of the football world. Sunday, April 6, 2003 - 10:36 p.m. One thing that was managed yesterday was bowling, and although not really managing any great scores (highest was 154 I think) I did ok and managed to start my first game with two strikes so I believe I will drink two pints of lager before I start bowling from now on. Sunday, April 6, 2003 - 10:27 p.m. More movie reviews (well I told you we never went out last night): Eight legged freaks - completely cheesy, totally predictable, but none the less quite enjoyable in a saturday night way; Resident Evil - completely mindless entertainment, no acting required; Existenz - the first two times i tried to watch this i ended up having sex in the middle of it, alas that never happened this time nit at least I got to see a quite enjoyable movie; Donnie Darko - fantastic, still trying to work out what it all means but just loved it. For a horror it wasn't frightening, but at the same time seeing a physics teacher saying that he isn't allowed to talk about aspects of time travel and god because he could get fired, is kinda scary. Currently printing Graham Greene's The Destructor's just now to read on the train tomorrow. Sunday, April 6, 2003 - 10:24 p.m. You'll be greatly surprised to hear that after planning to go out with the girls last night that it never happened, it has now been shifted to Wednesday night which is an obvious night to go out and get hammered. I'll believe it when it happens. Sunday, April 6, 2003 - 10:00 p.m. Today I've watched U-Turn and Out of Site so I have a question for you all. What the hell happened to Jennifer Lopez? She's great in both of these movies yet now is nearly as dire as Mariah Carey (did you see Mariah on TOTP? Oh my god, she's turning into a porcelain doll). I've seen spectacular falls in movies before, John Travolta for instance, but hers has to be one of the biggest. Saturday, April 5, 2003 - 04:54 p.m. 2-1 to the Jambos, fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Saturday, April 5, 2003 - 04:38 p.m. So who agrees with Stuart from Mogwai that the Britpop explosion was in fact a load of crap? He makes some good points, but I have to say I loved that whole time where for once I actually listened to music that the mainstream were interested in, which in turn allowed us to listen to good music at school when we had free periods. Saturday, April 5, 2003 - 04:26 p.m. See, I told you. 1-1. Saturday, April 5, 2003 - 04:19 p.m. Currently 1-0 up through a Griffin free-kick but Hearts are putting the pressure on now, argh! Saturday, April 5, 2003 - 04:13 p.m. Oh joy, the horse that I got in the office sweepstake managed to fall at the 3rd hurdle. Boo Hiss!!! I do have a second horse which I shared with my workmate but I can't remember what that one was called??? Saturday, April 5, 2003 - 03:04 p.m. How mad do you think it would be to fly to LA in June and go to the All Tomorrow's Party festival? The only problem really is finding somewhere cheap to stay and finding cheap flights which would need to be bought at the last minute. Anyone wanna join me for this madness if I can get it together? Friday, April 4, 2003 - 09:51 a.m.
Housemate story part 2 OK apologies may be in order, the housemate did not lose her bag on the tube. Information source was her fiance, who speaks less often than Silent Bob, and it has now been found that this info was as reliable as the BBC coverage of the war in Iraq. She did lose her bag though, but it was in a pub which isn't as bad as losing it on the tube, although you would have thought that she would have learnt from previous times when people have tried to grab her bag. Sigh. It has been decided not to change the locks as apparently her purse had nothing with our address on it in as she has already changed her driving license to her fiances mum's house where she now stays, jeez talk about trying to get rid of us all. Thursday, April 3, 2003 - 10:48 p.m.
I haven't linked his new site before as I keep forgetting to, but since he just sent me a link to the new Radiohead album I'll say a big thank you and give you the link to Grim's new home. Also, this site is cool if you like good music. Thursday, April 3, 2003 - 10:09 p.m.
Only a complete eejit would go onto the tube, sit down, and place their handbag on the floor between their feet where they can't see or feel it right? Now you know the sort of people I live with. So tomorrow it looks like Maz is gonna have to stay home so as to get the locks changed (although I don't really see why), which the landlord will probably charge us for as it's our fault and he knows we are moving in 2 months. I'm just hoping that if we do get burgled that it is a nice burglar who will do the dishes as no-one else in this house seems to. Thursday, April 3, 2003 - 08:34 p.m. I tried to download the new Blur, Radiohead and Linkin Park albums and none of them worked, blurgh! Thursday, April 3, 2003 - 08:31 p.m. Diaryland is a big pile of pish isn't it? I've come online for a short bit to read up on the last few days entries and the fucker doesn't work. PAH! Monday, March 31, 2003 - 10:39 p.m. Somehow I get the feeling that these guys are gonna be slammed with everything that can be thrown at them, especially if The Mail and The Sun get hold of the story. Monday, March 31, 2003 - 09:56 p.m. Wow, good results for Scotland in both the football and the rugby (OK, neither performances were good but I'll take the results for now thanks very much) this weeken, no wonder the pub was full of jolly Scots singing anti-english songs and suggesting to the couple of Icelanders that they do rude things with their spears :o) Monday, March 31, 2003 - 09:52 p.m. OK, on second listen the WS album is a little better. The 2nd half still sucks a little though and sounds like boring country music. If I ever buy it I think I'll get it on vinyl so I only have to listen to one side. And Megan's song is really cool, who would have thought that a drummer could sing? Monday, March 31, 2003 - 09:49 p.m. This just wants to make me cry, how the fuck does the US think that tactics used in Palestine are justified in any conflict? Monday, March 31, 2003 - 08:56 p.m. After the first listen all I feel is boredom, please let the second listen be better or I may start crying. Friday, March 28, 2003 - 11:00 p.m. You can't tell me that this is just a consequence of war, how many have to die before the US and UK realise what we are doing is so fuckin' wrong? Friday, March 28, 2003 - 10:45 p.m.
Work was a complete waste today as half the servers were down and I couldn't do most of my work which means Monday will be a bitch, bugger. To make up for this shitty day at work I went shopping to pick up any singles that came out this week (can't even remember what I got, Hot Hot Heat and something else), and get some t-shirts to go with my blue trousers (thanks for all the suggestions guys, you're all too kind). This however proved a bad move, as not only did I find a Fopp like store on Oxford Street (I did hold back from spending anything though), but I ended up in H&M. Now I got 2 cheap t-shirts in a shop previously but I wanted a zip-up jumper to wear during the summer and guessed they would have some in there, I was right and now own a lovely denim looking top, but at the same time I fell in love with about 10 different things which I had to force myself not too buy. One in particular stood out, a thin suede jacket. Now I have been looking for one of these for years just like that and there it was right in front of me, but I had to hold back as I don't have the money and already own a load of jackets....argh! Do I buy it or not? Thursday, March 27, 2003 - 10:42 p.m. I had to link this as it is so fuckin' funny, imagine the disgust they must have had when they landed on my site after that search. Thursday, March 27, 2003 - 10:25 p.m. Remember that the protests do go on and there should be many in your area this weekend. I'll probably go on the one in Camden as it involves marching to the BBC centre, and also the picnic at Parliament on Sunday. Should I take my teddy bear? I didn't realise there were some tonight though, that'll teach me not to spend most of my day away from the computer. I'm off to put a candle in my window though and watch Question Time, see ya. Wednesday, March 26, 2003 - 09:32 p.m. I need to sort out the size of the picture before posting it here, so for just now click on this link and tell me it doesn't explain everything about why football is so magnificent. Wednesday, March 26, 2003 - 01:58 p.m.
OK you sexy bunch of guys and girls, I need some help since I am but a humble man that only seems to buy clothes when my sister is in town. I bought new trousers last week, which shouldn't be strange apart from the fact they are both the same make/style/size yet one needs a belt and the other doesn't, but that's not important (just a little weird). what is important is now I own 2 pairs of blue trousers yet I don't seem to have any t-shirts that go with them. I do have some blue t-shirts (although they are gettnig a little dated now) and a couple of grey ones to go with them but I was wondering what other colours (colors if you're american) would go with dark/navy blue? I can be your doll for the day, just don't put me in weird crap or bend into suggestive positions please. I'm also trying to get some Converse All-Stars as the trainers I have just now are a complete wreck and have been for about six months now but I can never find them in the shops over here and the web sites are charging about £35 in total for them so I was wondering how cheap they were in yankie land? Amazon have them on sale for just now but I need to check on how much that would come to in total (p&p etc). If anyone knows any good (meaning cheap) web sites I would be most appreciative. I was quite surprised the other day when a fellow worker commented on how good BRMC were after noticing my t-shirt, wow a cool person in the Housing Department the shock nearly killed me. It sounds like he could be in a band so I'll have to try and find out what the band play and what other music he is into. He did slag off Oasis so that could be a good sign. They have painted the staff entrance to our building a shocking pink and purple colour which just blinds you every morning, it's like turning up for playschool or somthing. Apparently some of it is going to change but I'm not holding my breath on it being any more stylish. The Rehousing department is closed today as they are off staffing some Open Day that is being held, and instead of it being all quiet at work I have not stopped answering the phones as people keep transferring calls to me even though I know nothing. Sheesh, you would have thought I was meant to work in this place. I'm skiving off work tomorrow though to recover and use up the hours I built up when my workmate was away, anyone want to come over and laze in the sun with me? The new Turin Brakes album sounds pretty much like the last one, I'll let you make your own monds up on whether that is a good or a bad thing. Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 10:45 p.m. This is just crazy, GY!BE are not terrorists you bunch of crazy yanks. Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 10:31 p.m. This is as scary as it is fucking hilarious. Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 10:13 p.m. Watched the end of the oscars tonight and there weren't too many surprises by the end was there? I had a glimmer of hope that The Pianist was going to win best picture but they copt out in the end and gave it to Chicago, blurgh. I know, I know, don't slag it till you've seen it, but all the jazz music and Renee trying to sing is enough to make you wish you could lose your hearing for two hours. Best quote was by John Rhys-Davies (one of the BBC presenters, and Gimli from LOTR) when commenting on The Hours: "Well if your into the lesbo and aids thing". Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 09:58 p.m.
Grim may have linked the first good protest song (for those of you who heard the beastie boys one, you will know it wasn't their greatest work ever, although still better than Chumbawumba), but here I link the second. All hail REM, the greatest band to walk this planet.
Then I raise my voice up higher Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 09:52 p.m.
I think this states what I tried to say the other day about not 'supporting' the troops in Iraq better than I ever could. We recognize that being pro-peace is the greatest stance we can make "in support" of our troops. Tuesday, March 25, 2003 - 09:48 p.m. Finally got round to phoning my sister tonight (as well as writing a letter to my grandparents, I am doing well) after god knows how long. Good to chat and catch up, although I wish I hadn't asked if she wanted any of my cd's I'd bought lately as I think I'm now going to be copying half my collection....doh! Monday, March 24, 2003 - 10:59 p.m. Who else has felt sickened by the cheering of the marines as they fire off missiles at the Iraqis and kill them? Monday, March 24, 2003 - 10:42 p.m. If after all this the Iraqis elect a government that does not want US help rebuilding their country, or don't want to share their oil with the US, will the US government allow it? Monday, March 24, 2003 - 10:35 p.m. Linked on my other site as well, but this is so important that I had to link it here too. Monday, March 24, 2003 - 09:44 p.m. I wish I could stop predicting things, first of all there was the Hartson penalty, then the 'Pool loss in Europe, and then the cup draw with Caley getting Falkirk. But to top it all off I was haviong probs with my camera so i jokingly said wouldn't it be funny if none of the pictures from the march came out...........FUCK IT! |
